10:25 pm - Ok, I'm actually going to write this time.
So, Script Frenzy was a bust, although I do have about 6 pages of dialogue that I'm pretty happy with. Instead, I signed up for a sitcom spec writing class at the ImprovOlympic West. It's basically the same as my BU sitcom writing classes, except my current instructor seems to be pretty LA/business-savvy, and he is actually stressing the business aspect of writing - getting an agent and such. I now have a good 30 Rock spec idea that I'm optimistic about. Finally!

06:19 am - What else is there to do?
I just dropped Jay off at the airport. He's going home for a week. So, now I'm back at my apartment, checking on his flight status and playing with the cat. What else is there to do? I mean, besides sleeping and catching up with people, I guess.

I'm still working on In Plain Sight. The job ends mid-June, when we're done editing and delivering all the shows. I'll be a lot more angsty without a job than with a job; I assure you. Although, I'm secretly excited about the new season airing. There are billboards all over LA, and I've been taking pictures of them when I can. USA is putting a lot of money into marketing our little show. For the record, it is a good show. Objectively good. I always tell people I'm not ashamed to tell them I'm working on it (as opposed to awful reality shows).

I joined Script Frenzy. I wrote one scene so far, but it was more than I've done in months. It was so fulfilling. I don't think I'll get to the goal of 100 pages in a month, but just having some scripted pages is its own reward. I'm writing a feature film, if you're wondering. Or, at least, I'm trying to.

I feel like my Live Journal has suffered because of Facebook. I post funny status updates instead of witty Live Journal blurbs, and I share links on my profile instead of posting them here. No one has time to sit down and read blogs/diaries, it seems. Plus, I don't have time to sit down and write them (well, I don't feel like I do). The most popular blogs have a concept or purpose. What if I just want to be angsty and funny sometimes? I dunno. Maybe that will change when I'm unemployed. Bleh.

11:26 pm - Oh, right. I have a Live Journal.
I'm down to one job and one car, like a normal person. I finally sold my 1990 Toyota Camry (a.k.a. Powerhaus) on Tuesday. I sold it for $400 less than what I paid for it, but at this point, I'm glad to have it off my hands and out of my garage. Jay helped me sell it. I would have been pretty much lost without him.

I celebrated my first Valentine's Day for reals. Jay and I hung out on the Santa Monica Promenade, saw Coraline (which was good but a bit slow), and ate New York-ish pizza at Johnnie's. All of this was very exciting. Also, we are going to stay in San Diego overnight this weekend. I'm at the point where I don't want people to get sick of hearing about my happy relationship. So, no news is good news.

The job is ok. I still have one. That's good.

Callie is still adorable. She wants to explore the hallway, but I don't want her running off, so I bought a sparkly black-and-white harness and a black leash to "walk" her. She hates the harness, of course. I think I'm making progress, though. I give her a treat after every time she walks around the hallway with the harness on. I think she understands why I got her the harness, and it wasn't just to torture her. We'll see.

05:55 am - I never claimed to be good at finance.
I just registered for an Improv 101 class at the Upright Citizens Brigade Theater in LA. Like, JUST now. I just came back from hanging out with Ballon, Mike, and Tom (Mike's roommate) at the UCB Theater in NYC. When I came back, there was a UCB newsletter waiting for me in my Hotmail inbox to let me know that all new classes were available, including one on Sunday afternoons. I've been waiting for an available class on the weekends for months now, so I finally did it. I semi-impulsively registered. I hope I enjoy it.

The only problem is that it uses up all my Christmas (and Chanukah) money, which I was going to put towards my credit card payments. Hey, I never claimed to be good at finance. I hate money.

01:09 am - I haven't gotten over the jet lag yet.
Merry Christmas! I'm in Jersey, and I can't sleep because it still feels like 10:00 pm to me. This has to be the longest I've had jet lag during a trip home. Bleh.

I found my high school diary, and the majority of it is incredibly embarrassing. I opened it to find a list I wrote in eleventh grade: characteristics of my ideal man. Are you ready?

- funny
- can look at life in general and just laugh
- Simpsons, SNL, Conan (or any late show - Leno, Letterman) and Kids in the Hall (optional) watcher
- can understand my references to aforementioned shows and any other pop culture icons
- sensitive (to a substantial extent)
- faithful
- let me have time to myself
- won't be embarrassed by dumb things I do lol
- tolerant of people's views even though his beliefs might differ
- cool-tempered
- talks equally or less than I do lol
- non-athletic or accepting of my non-athletic ways
- more than willing to accept me and all my ways
- is ok with me and BFF [Ben Folds Five] obsession lol
- doesn't have to be a brain, but please no one dumber than an ameoba
- allowance of some PDA, not too much
- he'd better be a good driver

I used to use "lol" a lot. I switched over to using "haha"s and "hehe"s in college. Anyway, that list pretty much still stands. I love how a lot of it is basically "he better be ok with my asshole ways." I'm also happy to say my current choice of man (man-choice, if you will) fits all my eleventh-grade qualifications. I don't even think I would change this list much if I made a new one now. Hmm.

I should be writing more. A LOT more.

06:45 pm - Almost too late to realize this.
I haven't done any Christmas shopping. Uh oh.

Neil is here for the weekend. He gets along with both Callie and Jay. I was more worried about Callie.

I've become more introspective and self-reflective than usual.

That is all.

11:01 pm - How is your job going, Amy?
Help, I'm still at work.

Also, there was an earthquake. A slight one, but still.

TIIIRRREEEDDDD. Ugh.

But, hey, at least I'm employed?

10:23 am - Ben Folds in LA!
Last night, I saw Ben Folds in concert again. I've seriously lost track of how many times I've seen him live. I'm thinking it's somewhere around 6 or 7. I've also realized I have a Ben Folds concert routine:

1. As soon as I walk in the door I go to the merch table.
2. I buy a shirt and drape it over my purse.
3. I go to the bathroom and try on the shirt while I'm in there. If it doesn't fit right, I exchange it. If it fits, I keep it draped over my purse. I never wear the shirt during the concert.
4. I get a spot on the floor (or find my seat - but I rarely sit down at Ben Folds' concerts).
5. I impatiently endure the opener. This concert's opener, Rocco Deluca and The Burden, took 3 songs too long to get my attention.
6. I pump myself up during the intermission. I do not move from my spot unless I really, really, really have to go to the bathroom.
7. As soon as Ben walks out on stage, I proceed to lose my shit and sing and dance for the next hour (or in last night's case, 2 hours!).

I'd like to add that the "floor" at The Wiltern Theater was tiered, so I found a spot on the second tier where I COULD SEE. A 5'4" girl can barely see over (ok, see through) crowds. Ben Folds fans seem to be at least 6 feet tall. I was beside myself when I found a spot where I could see the entire stage. Thanks, The Wiltern!

Also, I can't tell you how powerful it was to see Ben Folds in LA. His music has gotten me through a lot. I teared up a bit when these lyrics came up:

"Whoaaa!
Gonna write a screenplay!
Whoaaa!
Gonna take it to LA!
Whoaaa!
Gonna get it done yesterday!" - "Army," The Unauthorized Biography of Reinhold Messner (Ben Folds Five)

"If you wrote me off,
I'd understand it
because I've been on
some other planet..." - "Landed," Songs for Silverman

"Landed" is about a guy who's "returning" from a bad relationship and not a girl who (still) feels a little lost in a city 3,000 miles away from her home, but I still take those particular lyrics personally.

Two more awesome things about the concert:
- For "The Frown Song," he made two of his band members wear huge, yellow frowny faces while playing keytars. It was even more awesome than it sounds.
- Ben wrote a fake version of his new song "Bitch Went Nuts" in which a young Republican lawyer brings his liberal girlfriend to his firm's Christmas party, introduces the girl to cocaine, and cringes when she starts to loudly rant about politics. It was hilarious. This is why I love Ben Folds.

01:42 am - Amy's Election Entry
Hi.

Obviously, I'm thrilled about President-Elect Barack Obama. I cried thinking how easy the win was; I cried thinking how great it will be to see Bush go; and I cried thinking of how adorable the First Family will be (especially with the promised new First Puppy). Most importantly, I cried thinking how far America has come and how I'm proud to be an American. Then, I laughed and realized the Lee Greenwood song finally makes a bit more sense.

Now, about Prop 8.

I voted against it. I have a gay uncle and many, many gay friends. If this election happened around 3 months ago, I would be ranting along with all the other liberals and posting the seemingly omnipresent YouTube clip of Keith Olbermann's editorial. But I'm not. I'm dating a guy who voted in favor of Prop 8. For the first time in my closed-minded liberal life, I'm trying to understand the other side, which is made up of more decent people than you'd think.

My favorite way to look at this issue is the way my friend Steph put it: some people see this as a religious issue - we see it as a civil rights issue. I equate Prop 8 with the ban on interracial marriages. Other people simply equate it with their respective religious upbringings. We just see the world in different ways. And, honestly, who are we to decide whether or not homosexuality is wrong? If there happens to be a creator "up there," perhaps the creator was serious when he/she said homosexuality was a sin. Maybe I'm wrong. However, I choose not to believe in my affiliated religion. (This decision came to me around the same time I realized how much I enjoy bacon.) I choose to believe that humans should be able to do whatever we want, as long as it doesn't bring harm to anyone else or anything else, within reason. Gay marriage is one of those things that I believe harms no one. I plan to raise any children I have to know that homosexuals are people too, and they deserve every single human right that heterosexuals have, including marriage. That's me. The guy I'm currently dating knows my views on this subject, and he's ok with it. He does support civil unions, hospital visitation rights, etc. - just not marriage. For him, it's the final breaking point. For me, it's the final accomplishment.

Not that you guys are out to attack me or my boyfriend. I'm just trying to explain where I'm coming from and why I'm not necessarily as angry about this as the rest of you are (or as angry as I would have been 3 months ago).

I will also put this out there: Don't blame the Mormons. They might have started Prop 8, but if only Mormons voted for it, there's absolutely no way it would have passed.

02:26 pm - I wub my kitty.
I've had Callie for a year (and 4 days).

I'm still allergic to her fur, but Zyrtec and my apartment's hardwood floors help a lot. It still doesn't matter to me, though. That little face is worth occasional sneezes. She's also become a bit of a lap kitty, and she's a lot better at dealing with company. I have at least 25 nicknames for her. The newest one I'll admit to is Smeets, which is derived from two other nicknames. I'm on that level.

Jess, we still have to have a LOLcat-off. It is on.

08:52 am - I'm happy for once.
I usually complain in here. This is not one of those posts. I want to acknowledge the good times I'm having because all this good stuff rarely happens to me at once. I got a new job as a post-production assistant on In Plain Sight on the USA network. I start October 20. Bye bye, Page Program. Bye bye, Starbucks. Especially Starbucks. Also, Jay and I are having fun.

For those of you who aren't having a good time, I'm reading everything you're writing, and I'm here to listen.

10:29 pm - My political world is turning upside down.
I'm going out with a Republican. At least half of the West Coast Rosenblooms are Republicans. And today, my brother told me that he's considering McCain. He'll still probably vote for Obama, but he likes McCain, and he's willing to hear him out.

What is going on?!

This election is changing everything. I'll admit, I like McCain as a person - he's made at least 11 hilarious appearances on The Daily Show - but I'm not voting for him, especially with his VP pick. Palin may have figurative balls, but I don't agree with her policies either. Honestly, aren't there more qualified lady Republicans? If you're going to be ballsy enough to put a woman on the ticket, isn't there a more qualified one around? Or at least one that has experience with more a diverse population than Alaska?

You're not going to get me, GOP. I don't care how many people I care about are voting for you.

11:43 pm - Car Update
I have my old car back. It's currently in my parking spot in the underground parking garage. My newer car is parked on the street.

They hardly took anything from it. The only things missing were my new Bluetooth and the garage door remote opener. All the parts were still there, even though the police notice said the radio and tape deck were missing. The seat wasn't moved back, but it was tilted back, and the radio was on a rap station. Other than that, everything seemed fine. Oh, except for the parking tickets, which I intend to fight in traffic court if I have to.

I paid the impound lot all their stupid storage fees to take the car myself instead of just paying the towing fees so that I could make a little money by selling the car to a private party myself. Otherwise, the impound lot would sell it and make a profit. So, hey, who wants my old car? It still runs well!

Part of me wonders if impound lots steal the cars themselves. My mom wondered the same thing.

By the way, the PA gig is going ok. It will be going better once I see my actual paycheck.

11:43 pm - Mega News Update
1. The police found my old car. It was in Inglewood. My car is currently in an impound lot, racking up storage fees. Apparently, it doesn't have a radio or tape deck anymore. Before I let the impound lot just take care of it, I want to go see it so that I can retrieve my title and registration cards, if they're still there. If I had theft insurance, that might cover the impound fees. Alas, I might have to pay something if the impound service doesn't make much money on my car. Ugggggggh.

2. I have a new PA gig, courtesy of Jay. We're working on a reality show until early September. It should be interesting.

12:24 am - News Brief
I got a new car yesterday - a silver 2000 Dodge Neon. The rental car is back at Enterprise.

I'm working as a PA this Wednesday and Friday on a Ray Romano pilot for TNT.

I should also add information about the previous weekend because I still can't get a certain someone out of my mind.

08:40 pm - Car Update, plus some awesome things.
Insurance is not covering the theft. My parents pay for my car insurance, and they only got enough to cover liability and medical payments. It's cheaper that way, but it was a bad decision in hindsight (everything is so clear in hindsight!). I needed a new(er) car anyway, so I'm just going to get a new(er) car as soon as I can. In the meantime, I have a rental car from Enterprise. They gave me an intermediate for the price of a compact and waived the "under 25" fee because they felt bad for me.

On to slightly more awesome things.

1. Last night, I saw The Band From TV at the Autry Museum, and after the concert, Netflix, the sponsor, screened classic episodes of The Muppet Show, The Cosby Show, The Mary Tyler Moore Show, The Bob Newhart Show, and classic Schoolhouse Rock cartoons on a huge, inflatable screen. It was one of the coolest things I've done in LA, hands down. I got to see House and Dr. Chase jam in person. Chase plays a mean electric violin.

2. I played beer pong for the first time after the concert. I'm laughably bad at it, but there are no losers in beer pong (a very subjective stance on the matter, I know).

3. I just went for a little walk/jog earlier and passed by a parked car with open windows. Inside, there was a guy singing "Bohemian Rhapsody" at the top of his lungs. So, I joined him. He smiled, we rocked out for a bit, and I walked away with a "I had to! I had to! Have a good night!" That was also one of the coolest things I've done in LA.

02:47 am - 8 WAS my lucky number...
On 8/8/08 at around 8 pm...

My car was stolen.

I wasn't in it. I wasn't even near it.

Right now, I just want to watch the encore of the opening ceremony of the Olympics.
